Structural Damage Identification Using a Modified Directional Bat Algorithm

Bat algorithm (BA) has been widely used to solve optimization problems in different fields. However, there are still some shortcomings of standard BA, such as premature convergence and lack diversity. To this problem, a modified directional bat (MDBA) is proposed paper. Based on the (DBA), individual optimal updating mechanism employed update bat’s position by using its own solution. Then, an elimination strategy introduced increase diversity population, which individuals with poor fitness values eliminated, new randomly generated. The applied structural damage identification objective function composed actual modal information calculated information. Finally, MDBA detection beam-type bridge truss-type bridge, results compared those other swarm intelligence algorithms variants BA. show that case same small population number few iterations, more accurate better than algorithms. Moreover, study anti-noise performance shows maximum relative error only 5.64% at 5% noise level 6.53% 3% good robustness.
